NCAE, a new experience

As third year students, we need to take up the what they so called NCAE or National Career Assessment Examination. We all know that we need to take that up but, the teachers said it the day before the test day itself! We were too tensed and we don’t know what to do. Luckily, our adviser taught us things we must know while taking the exams. We were too excited in taking it the next day.
                        We are first timers in taking exams like this. We really do not know what will we answer because our adviser just told us to answer everything and do not leave any blank number. We just followed them and took their advice. The teacher in charged in our room admitted that she admires science students like us because she said that we were too intelligent to be given instructions. Then, she gave us the test booklet, and the answer sheet. The answer sheet are full of circles, in which we will shade in. It took us half a day to finish the exam.
                        It is a new experience for me indeed. It’s just too boring while answering because it is too quiet and the wind blows so cool, it made me sleep for awhile. But that didn’t affect how I answer at all. I take that experience as a part of my memories now.

my teacher my hero

Mrs. Marjorie M. Digma. A second year adviser, botany teacher, and a research adviser. That’s how others describe her. But for us, II – Hydrogen batch 2011-2012, she’s a mother, a mentor, and a friend. Well, even though she wants us to treat her as a friend, we still treat her with respect. She is a teacher that marked our hearts with great lessons, not just in botany but also in life.
                        She is a teacher that does not shout that often. Gets mad but not every time. She also gets touched easily. I remembered the teacher’s day, we made a surprise, she’s so happy with that. Well, she shared that she liked our batch the most because even though we are not that active in class, she sees our effort to learn and not to be kicked out of the school. We also learned to love our classmates like our own brothers and sisters. That made us treat her like a mother. She has her own child named RJ. She is a very great mother to him. She proved to us that she is also a perfect mother for us. She never gave up on us. Even though we disappoint her for so many times now, but she never loses hope on us. She keeps on reminding us the things we need to comply. We asked her why and she always answers ‘simple. I just want to see you complete in your graduation day’.
                        Last October 5, the world celebrated world teacher’s day. Unfortunately, she’s not present in school because of a seminar. We would be so much happy if we greeted her in person. That day could be the perfect time to thank her for everything she did for me, for us. We could all say that “ma’am Digma, you don’t need to be wonder woman. Because for us, you are our hero. We love you so much! “

Comedy of errors

Humor, its events confined within a single day. There are hints of Shakespeare's later forays into deeper character development, especially in the early laments of Antipholus of Syracuse for his missing twin, but the story remains largely on the surface. Characters are mistaken for one another, but they do not pretend to be other than what they are--there are no disguises here, only resemblances. The plot, so concerned with outward appearances, appropriately turns on the exchange of material objects--a Courtesan's ring, a gold chain, and the thousand marks that Egeon needs to save his life. Virtually all interior life is absent, and the action is entirely physical.
There are intimations of disturbing, even tragic issues in the story, of course--the plot depends on an initial threat of execution, and the play is filled with unsettling subjects. There are broken families, a troubled marriage, slavery, grief and anger, frequent violence, and a beheading lying in wait at the end of the day. But the play is not about these issues--it touches them briefly before skating on to happier, funnier subjects. The audience's moments of unease are brief and quickly give way to laughter.
And indeed, because this play is a comedy, everything that threatens the laughter is eliminated at the end. It is not only the characters' confusion that is relieved by the final scene, in which the "errors" are explained and resolved; all the darker, unpleasant issues are resolved, as well. Duke Solinus begins the play as a figure of unbending, almost tyrannical legalism; he ends it as a forgiving father figure. The broken halves of Egeon's family have been separated for more than 20 years; now they are put back together, and wife and husband fall into one another's arms as if time and distance had not intervened between them. The marriage of Antipholus of Ephesus and Adriana is threatened by mutual jealousy; their reconciliation, once their misapprehensions have been cleared away, is the work of a few moments. And even the poor, abused slaves, the Dromios, quickly forget their beatings and bruises and embrace. The ease with which these problems are overcome points to the central theme of the play: Love and felicity will triumph over all.

To be or not to be

To be, or not to be: that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,
And by opposing end them? To die: to sleep;
No more; and by a sleep to say we end
The heart-ache and the thousand natural shocks
That flesh is heir to, 'tis a consummation
Devoutly to be wish'd. To die, to sleep;
To sleep: perchance to dream: ay, there's the rub;
For in that sleep of death what dreams may come
When we have shuffled off this mortal coil,
Must give us pause: there's the respect
That makes calamity of so long life;
For who would bear the whips and scorns of time,
The oppressor's wrong, the proud man's contumely,
The pangs of despised love, the law's delay,
The insolence of office and the spurns
That patient merit of the unworthy takes,
When he himself might his quietus make
With a bare bodkin? who would fardels bear,
To grunt and sweat under a weary life,
But that the dread of something after death,
The undiscover'd country from whose bourn
No traveller returns, puzzles the will
And makes us rather bear those ills we have
Than fly to others that we know not of?
Thus conscience does make cowards of us all;
And thus the native hue of resolution
Is sicklied o'er with the pale cast of thought,
And enterprises of great pith and moment
With this regard their currents turn awry,
And lose the name of action.--Soft you now!
The fair Ophelia! Nymph, in thy orisons
Be all my sins remember'd.

Intramurals '12

Cavite National Science High School continually supports physical activities such as sports. They are annually celebrating the Intramurals to know what the standings of the science students in sports are. This August 6-7, we celebrated our 2-day intramurals. We did the usual sports and such activities.
                        Well, it’s our third time to be involved in this Intramurals. Last year, we almost got the first spot but, we are tied up with the last year’s juniors. Maybe that’s the reason for us to be competitive enough to win the games that we are involved in. we, juniors, made sure that we will bring home the bacon. Well, we brought home some, but not all. We accept our loses and we proved that we are sport enough to accept it. In that case, we didn’t accept all of it. We proved that our team won some of it. I won’t pinpoint or tell names and such. But we knew, from the first place, that we are cheated. In some ways, we were happy. I just never wanted to talk about it anymore.
                        Oh well, let’s just not talk about that. We were happy in the first place so, why bother? The most important thing is that we all enjoyed and made new friends. We also won, not trophy, not medals, but new learning and more friends.

a very wierd love story

There was this coy girl in the park. She stays there because he loves watching those deciduous trees aligned by the pathway. She waits for her boyfriend to come. She did things to entertain her; play with the fallen leaves, play with the cute animals there, and such. After 10 minutes, her most awaited came. He asks her to go to their tryst. The girl was shocked to find out that their tryst is in the depot. Well, it doesn’t really matter to her. What matters most is the moment to be with her beloved. The depot is too grungy for her. She hates mess and litter. She told it to her boyfriend but it didn’t listen so, she did nothing but to stay put and manage to smile. He went back to the kitchen to get the food for the two of them. She wanted to help but his boyfriend insisted so she stayed. Few minutes later, he’s back with their food. She was too disappointed with the food. She remembered that she told him about his allergies to seafood but, he prepared tempura for canapĆ©, sweet and spicy crab, sushi, and such. She’s too angry but she’s scared to talk so she managed to keep quiet about it. Later on, his boyfriend asked for a break. At first she can’t believe it and thought that it was only a joke. He got angry and spoke obnoxious words. There, she finally spoke and she said she will sue him. He never knew that she is affluent and she can afford a lawyer. Many arraignments are done but he always boycotts it and sends his assignee instead. One day, he appeared but not because of the case, but to apologize to her. She cried and accepted the apology from him. He asked for another chance from her and she realized that she still loves him so, she gave her another chance.

 ~The End~

mother tongue vs. foreign language

We, Filipinos, have our own language: Tagalog. We use it every day to communicate with other Filipinos. We are used to it, aren’t we? Now, foreigners visit our country. Those who can only speak in English can communicate with them because they can understand each other. What is more important for us to learn? Our own language or foreign language?
                        In our school, we are required to speak in English or else we will have a very low grade in English. We are also learning Spanish because it is included in our curriculum. Well, we also speak in Tagalog most of the times. Their reason for requiring us to speak in English all the time is for us to get used in speaking in English. They say that we will need it in the near future. Oh well, they have a point. But, how about our native language? Don’t we need it more than the foreign ones? I’m not saying that schools that are implementing English speaking policy are wrong. It’s just that we also need to master our own language first before speaking others right?
                        We are a part of history. We must speak fluent Tagalog before speaking fluent English, Spanish or whatever. We must love our own language like how we love our country. Our heroes fought for our language also so we must appreciate it first before the others do.

A special poem for a very special person

A person with a unique ability,
that comes with a very strong personality.
She makes me laugh and cry again,
then later she will make amends
She’s never sad, I don’t know why;
she said “laugh at those problems that comes by.
As a friend, she’d never fake;
when you’re with her you’re wide awake
She gives us overflowing love,
and offers everything she have.
Simple things can make her smile;
a hug can do for a little while
Forget her problems, that’s what I want,
even once or twice a month.
It’s really hard to earn her trust;
to be honest to her is a must.

                                                      A perfect mother, yes she is,
                                                 for her to be happy is my only wish.
                                           I can always say the things that are true;
                                                      all I can say is I Love You!

my Happy Ending

As what I have told you in my last blog, I think Romeo and Juliet is too harsh for me. I’ve made my own ‘romantic and happy’ ending. Well, this is my own ending with comic relief. I’m not good at jokes and I don’t think you’ll like this but, I managed to make as well. Here it goes:
                        Juliet came with the vial that contains the poison. In depression, she drank it but not all of it. Right there and then, she fall asleep by a tomb that she thinks is Romeo’s. Friar Laurence made the poison but he made sure that it won’t kill Juliet.  As expected, she fell asleep for a very long time.
                        Romeo heard of the news; Juliet is dead. There, he went to the ‘tomb’ of Juliet immediately. There, he saw the body of Juliet. He cried so hard. Then, he saw the vial of poison right beside Juliet. He got it and he nearly drank it. Just then, he saw Count Paris standing there. He acted as if he will punch Paris. He just held Paris’ collar and lifted him. He fought with Paris because he thought that Paris persuaded Juliet to kill herself with the use of poison. Paris got irritated because of the accusations of Romeo so, he told the truth to him; Juliet is not dead. Romeo felt a relief in his body. He thanked Paris for the information and he made friends with Paris. They talked for a while and told Paris about a plan that he just made. Right there and then, Romeo lay beside Juliet and pretended that he also died because of the poison.
                        Days later, the Capulets visited Juliet. They were in shock to find out about Romeo. They were too sad about their child’s love. They make amends with Romeo’s family. They made Paris the right hand of Capulet without knowing that Paris is with Romeo and Juliet.
                        Now let’s get back with the couple. After a week, they were awake already. They are too happy to find them with each other again. Paris suddenly came and reminded Romeo about the plan. They immediately went to Friar Laurence and asked him to remarry each other. And they lived happily ever after.
                        What’s the comedy of this story? The fact that the Capulets never thought that the poison is fake. Ok, it’s too corny. Sorry for that.

my Own Ending

Romeo and Juliet is one of the tragic plays of Shakespeare. As a reader, I like the story but, I think it’s too harsh. Well, this is my own ending:
Fortunately, Count Paris was there and prevented Romeo from drinking the leftover poison. There, Romeo got mad and he fought with Count Paris. When Count Paris cornered Romeo, he told everything that had happened. He told Romeo that Juliet never died yet; she’s just fallen into a very deep sleep. Romeo sat beside Juliet and waited for her to wake up. After a week, she woke up and saw Romeo sleeping beside her. She hugged him so tight that woke him up.
                        They went back to Juliet’s house. They’ve decided to tell them about their marriage. As expected, they didn’t agree. Lady Capulet grabbed Juliet’s hand and ordered her guards to capture Romeo and kill him. In that case, Juliet got mad and escaped from the tight hand of Lady Capulet. She tried to get Romeo from the guards but her strength is not enough. She went to the dining table and got a knife. She scared them that if they will not release Romeo and will not let them live happily together, she will kill herself. Lady Capulet tried to get the knife from Juliet but Juliet insisted. Lady Capulet got so scared that even if she doesn’t agree, she just let them. Romeo and Juliet were very happy. They asked for a house from their parents (that is immediately given) and lived together. They had a child and named it Juno. From then on, they lived happily ever after.

It's not her own problem anymore

Earth’s riches are distributed to everywhere equally. Before, people use those for them to live but they used it responsibly. They replace what they get. Now people use them for living also. They even created machines, equipments, name it! But unfortunately, they use it irresponsibly. They abused all of the gifts of nature. It’s like they are raping mother earth, without the fear of the revenge of her.
                        Nowadays, we experience different weird phenomena. They say it’s because of climate change and global warming’s fault. Whose fault is the climate change and global warming? Isn’t it us? Well, that’s the problem in us. We’re too in denial. We don’t want us to get blamed in a sin that we did. Yet, we blame others. Other people find ways to prevent it. They make robots, equipments, and machines that help people. Others help, others don’t, and others don’t care. Well, we can’t dictate what others feel. We can’t tell them to help us in cleaning the environment or in planting trees, and such. We all have our own minds so, we don’t need to dictate others nor be dictated by others.
                        They say we can’t prevent it anymore. Yes we can’t but we can lessen the damage that it causes. All we need is cooperation in all of us. We can’t tell what will happen in the near future. What’s best is we tried to cure mother earth and we didn’t leave her in her worst.

my beloved family

A family composes of the parents; mother and father, and child/children. Usually, they have 4-6 members of the family. We are just 3; my mom, my dad, and me. We’re supposed to be 5 but, unfortunately, my two older siblings (no one ever knew what their gender was) died of miscarriage. I can say, maybe we will be a lot happier if they’re alive. How I wish they were because it’s hard to be the only child. I’m really wondering why others wish to be the only child. It’s not fun, for me.
            You can say that we’re just like the other usual families; the father works and provides for the family, the mother stays at home and takes care of the baby (or child) and the child makes the family happy. Well, in our case, my parents both work for our living. They are both teachers; my mom is an elementary teacher and my dad is a high school teacher. I can’t stop wondering, they are both math majors, how about me? *insert sad face here* Oh well, just don’t mind that. As I was saying, my family has enough income. I even have my savings in the bank (I worked hard for it. I never ate at school!!!). Well, we are just staying here in Naic because this is nearer to school than our own house in DasmariƱas. My parents say we need to sacrifice in order for me to graduate in a nice school.
                        I can’t say that my family is perfect. We also have problems like the other families have. We also fight and shout at each other (but of course I respect them. Duh! ) but we make sure that our problems are resolved as much as possible. I admire my mom because even though my dad is doing such things to her, she manages to smile and be strong. I asked her why and she just answered “I simply just don’t want you to have a broken family. I can do anything honey, anything just for you”.

Behind That Scary Man

                     "Every man can be a father but it takes someone special to be a dad". The first time I heard this quotation, I agreed eagerly. Every father is strict in nature. I understood that when I reached second year. At first, He just can't understand me. He is always angry and shouting. I nearly hated him those days. When I really wanted to give up on him, he, and almost everyone around me made me realize that he is overprotective because I am the only child they have.

                      Last week, the world celebrated father's day, well, except us. My dad is an exception. He doesn't want to celebrate any occasions about him. I was traumatized in giving him gifts because I can remember, he just ignored that simple but meaningful card. From that day on, I never tried to give him any 'cause I'm afraid that my effort will just be wasted.

                      I chose that picture of him because there, he's just my usual "tatay", a man who's not smiling. A very scary looking man with a cold look. Well, I'm used to it. He's like that to me every time.Being strict is one of his assets. Even though I am already a third year student, he is still not allowing me to go somewhere with my friends and classmates. Whenever I am talking to my male friends, he’s getting paranoid easily. Maybe others call it overprotection. Don’t worry, that’s what I think also.
